Style icons - Vivienne Westwood
Vivienne Westwood has amazed and inspired me since I first read about her, and saw images of her with bleached hair, teased to fuck on top of her heavily made up face standing next to Malcolm McLaren in my father’s coffee table book on punk when I was eight or nine years old. I may not agree with every fashion statement she’s made (Swastika, anyone?) however her overriding message of wearing what you want, dressing for yourself and always saying something with your fashion choices has stuck with me for the past ten years or so - even if I didn’t quite understand the feelings I was having when they originally came to me.
Her designs are immaculate, however she maintains an element of rebellion, individuality and daring with every collection she releases. She may have matured and moved away from the movement, but to me she will always be the Queen of Punk.
